Horsham Rural City Council is a vibrant municipality located approximately 300 kilmoetres north-west of Melbourne. The majority of its 19,880 residents are located in Horsham, a hub for health care, niche retail, education and schooling, community services, arts, sports and culture.

Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate Community Engagement Officer to join our team. This role is pivotal in strengthening relationships between Council and the community by developing and implementing engagement strategies that ensure meaningful participation in decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and delivery community engagement plans for Council projects and initiatives.
  • Organise and facilitate consultation activities such as workshops, forums and surveys.
  • Build strong partnerships with community groups, stakeholders, and internal teams.
  • Ensure engagement processes are inclusive, accessible, an aligned with Council's strategic objectives.
  • Analyse feedback and prepare reports to inform Council decisions.

Desired Skills and Experience

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications, community development, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Experience in community engagement, stakeholder management, or public relations.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Knowledge of IAP2 principles and best practice engagement methods is desirable.
